Oedopeza leucostigma, Coleoptera: Cerambycidae, 2002

Photomacrograph

American Museum of Natural History, Division of Invertebrate Zoology, New York, New York, United States

This specimen, shown in dorsal view, is a long-horned beetle, Oedopeza leucostigma, from the insect collection of the American Museum of Natural History. A number of mites can also be seen on the insect's thorax and legs. These mites can be either parasitic, predatory, or phoretic. In the last case, the mites use their host as a vehicle to transport them to a suitable living environment.
