Photomacrograph; color transparency film

Photomacrography and photomicrography are complex because they require precise control of many technical issues, including a limited range of focus. As a consequence, special approaches are sometimes necessary. In this photograph, I attempted to reveal the bony structure of a coyote hard palate through the use of "Nilssonian lighting." This lighting method, named for Lennart Nilsson, employs optical staining of specific structures, along with strong colorization to emphasize the structures' visual presence.
