This photomicrograph features a confocal image of an Arabidopsis expressing a fluorescent reaction for the SHOOT MERISTEMLESS gene. This gene maintains cells in meristems, organs at the tip of the stems and flowers that produce leaves and floral organs in an undifferentiated state (shown in cyan). Cell walls were stained with propidium iodide (red). The recorded image was 2048x2048 pixels and corresponds to a physical sample size of 345x345 microns.
