Organic Lace, 2001

Photomacrograph made with a digital SLR camera system

Microptics, Inc., Yonkers, New York, United States

The features of this tiny Peruvian lace bug of the family Tingidae, are recorded in exquisite color, detail, and fine texture. Capturing the lace bug in a single shot required finely controlled lighting in order to achieve both depth and resolution. The 8-mm long insect was photographed with reflected and transmitted electronic flash light delivered by a fiber-optic system. The specimen was photographed through the courtesy of the American Museum of Natural History, New York.
