The photograph shows an excimer laser being used in an ophthalmic surgical procedure. A single laser pulse is capable of precisely vaporizing microscopic layers of corneal tissue. The accuracy of the excimer laser is unequaled for this application, and it is commonly used to correct corneal shape, thus enabling clearer vision.
