The fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, is approximately 3 mm in length and is one of the most significant organisms in biological research, particularly in genetics and developmental biology. It has helped humans better understand the principles of genetics and inheritance. The Drosophila specimen was prepared as a microscope slide by Wards’ Natural Science Est. Inc. and photographed in the Biomedical Photographic Communications Laboratories at the Rochester Institute of Technology
