This photomicrograph shows a microscopic melarsomine crystal that was examined using polarized light. Melarsomine is a relatively expensive drug and is used in veterinary medicine for the treatment of heartworm infections in dogs. Melarsomine contains arsenic and is highly toxic. This crystal was approximately 3 millimeters in size.
