Comet Hyakutake, Polaris, Big Dipper and Saguaro, 1996

Astrophotograph made using a time exposure of 12 min. at f/2.8; color transparency film

Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States

This photograph was made on March 27, 1996, in the Arizona Desert near Florence, Arizona. While the stars exhibit trails due to the rotation of the earth during the exposure, the Comet's head is relatively sharp because it was in close proximity to Polaris.
