Scanning electron photomicrograph

This salt crystal was derived from a Pacific Ocean water sample from the Oregon coast. The crystal was grown on a glass slide by adding methanol to the seawater, which accelerates the evaporation process and produces a salt hopper. The photograph was made using a JEOL 840 scanning electron microscope.
