Nighttime landscape photograph; Yashica Mat TLR camera; tripod mounted; 120mm color transparency film

Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States

This photograph recorded a classic example of lightning’s randomly dynamic symmetry. Multiple cloud to ground lighting bolts emanate from two opposing regions of a cumulonimbus cloud over Tucson, Arizona in 1993. This time-exposure photograph captured the enormous energy that a single convective thunderstorm can release during a violent electronic storm in the southwest.
