This honeybee, feeding on a drop of sugary water had its thorax tagged on with a RFID (radio frequency identification) chip. RFID microchips are often used for monitoring an insect’s behavior. The microchip records the individual bee’s tag number each time it enters or leaves its hive, thus tracking data about its condition and travel frequency. This research was carried out at the Julius-Maximilians- Universität in Würzburg, Germany.
