News and Comments about the exhibition from around the world!

We heard from Hans-Ulrich Danzebrink in Braunschweig, Germany that:

Hello Michael, hello Andy, I am glad to tell you, that our opening was a great success!!! Here is the press release that went out regarding the exhibition:

"Images from Science - Wissenschaftsbilder"

The exhibition "Images from Science - Wissenschaftsbilder" is based on the collection "Images from Science 2" brought together by Prof. Michael Peres and Prof. Andrew Davidhazy from the internationally recognized School of Photographic Arts and Sciences at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), U.S.A.. This travelling exhibition will have its first and yet only stop in Europe and presents about 60 exciting contemporary images from the fields of astronomy, engineering, physics, medicine, and biology. The images have been made with techniques ranging from conventional macro photography and high-speed photography via radiography to scanning force microscopy, and they provide fascinating insights into areas not usually accessible to the human eye.

Organisers in Braunschweig are Ulrike Lahmann and Dr. Hans U. Danzebrink supported by the project partner "Braunschweigische Landschaft e.V.". The exhibition will be shown at the new "Haus der Wissenschaft" ("House of science"), which is situated on the campus of Braunschweig Technical University. The presentation of the images is accompanied by a number of lectures, tours and related events for school classes and public groups.

Duration: 7. August 2009 - 18. September 2009
Opening hours: Tue.-Fri.: 1pm - 8pm; Sa.:1pm 6pm
Place: Haus der Wissenschaft Braunschweig, Pockelsstr. 11, 38106 Braunschweig

With best regards, Hans

Latest ArtStreet show gives rare view of snowflakes, bees and the cosmos.

Did you ever want to see a fruit fly up close and personal? How about a tick chomping down on human skin, or a macro image of a honeybee licking a drop of sugar water?

These images aren't as aesthetically pleasing as some of the others in the current ArtStreet exhibit at the University of Dayton, but they do provide a fascinating look at science and nature.

Scott Streiker, coordinator of UD's Nano Engineering Science and Technology Lab, captured the image of a fruit fly's head at 120 magnification via scanning electron photomicrograph. This image was created as part of student training on a high-resolution scanning electron microscope for a graduate biology course.

"Images from Science 2" includes microscopic images of bacteria, computer chips and snowflakes; also rare views of space, the human eye, and even a fetus inside the womb. Stop by and see these along with dozens of other photographs at UD's ArtStreet Studio D Gallery, Studio C, and Cafe.

The traveling exhibit first debuted at the Rochester Institute of Technology last October.

"We strive with our programming to show interdisciplinary connectiveness of the arts," said Susan Byrnes, ArtStreet director. "When we had the opportunity to bring this show to ArtStreet, it was a perfect fit. This show is in partnership with UD-RI right here on campus. These images are quite beautiful, and they do reflect research images from many different fields."

The second venue where the Images from Science 2 exhibition was installed was at the Dayton ArtStreet gallery at 330 Kiefaber Avenue from early March 2009 through March 26, 2009. To see the announcement as it appeared in the University of Dayton Research Institute's newsletter click on the thumbnail image at right.

The first exhibition of the Images from Science collection was shown at a joint convention of the Society for Imaging Science and Technology and the International Society for Photo-Optical Engineering held in San Jose, California from Jan 18-24, 2009. It attracted an appreciative audience and you can see a larger version of the thumbnail image shown at left by clicking on it.

The exhibition was featured in the Journal of Biocommunications. See this at http://www.jbiocommunication.org/issues/34-3/showcase.html

I am so sorry to miss the opening. I can't wait to see the catalog! Thank you again for all of the work you did.

Dear Michael and Andy,

Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the opening. The images are beautiful but I'd love to see them mounted. Perhaps they'll come to a town near me :). I'd be interested in purchasing 3 additional copies of the catalog if you could tell me where to direct my request. Thanks again for your efforts in putting together this show. Cheers,
Seth

Hi michael and andy

I didn't get the invitation but with great regrets I can't make the opening though it's been on my calendar fore many days. I've currently got too much to get ready for an invited gallery show and lecture series on a luxury cruise ship (www.aboardtheworld.com - it's amazing!), leaving late next week for about a week. Your website looks great - this is a really wonderful suite of images and I'm very sorry I can't make it to meet the others (and see you and your own colleagues again). Congrats again and hoist one for me,

dee breger
Dear Michael, Congratulations to a breath-taking exhibiton. Such fantastic images.

Kindest regards

Hello, Michael and Andy

Thanks for producing Images from Science this year again! Its a very interesting collection this year. We saw lots of new things and could learn from it!

One wish we have to you: The photograph of the Stromatolites is not very well in the web- view. Could you please replace it by the one attached? This photograph has its effect by the details, which got lost in the present web photo. Best regards from a Indian-Summer- like Germany!

Thanks for the update Michael and Andy

I obviously won't be there for the opening. I had a look at the online exhibition, and it looks great. Well done to both of you.

I would like to get a couple of extra copies of the catalog, and it would be easier to ship them together with the complimentary copies if possible. What is the best way for me to pay for a couple extras and the postage necessary? Would sure like to get the event price if possible, our dollar has just taken a dive against yours.......

Again, congratulations to both of you on a job well done. Enjoy the night, you both deserve it. Cheers.

Andy & Michael

The photographs look fantastic. I'm very excited to attend the reception this coming weekend. Thank you both for bringing everything together. I wanted to suggest some corrections to my 2 captions. I've attached a word document that contains edited captions that I think are more clear. See you Saturday!

Hello Michael

Thanks for your note. Thanks also for the link to the RIT images from science which I enjoyed looking at. Thanks also for the very smooth organisation you and your colleagues have in place for the competition. with regards

Hi Michael and Andy,

It was nice to see you again Saturday. I just wanted to drop a line and thank you again for all your efforts in regard to IFS2. It was a good collection of images and the display was nicely presented. The reception was very nice and it was great to see old colleagues again. When we get settled into our new lab, I'll have Fred send you those files for the Small World exhibit.

Dear Andy and Michael,

You guys are setting new standards for RIT Photo. Well done!

Dear Michael and Andy

It was great to see you in Rochester. During my trip I also got to enjoy the train show at the Eastman house. O. Winston Link has been one of my favorite photographers for many years. I have seen his work exhibited before and these prints were much better, probably printed by the photographer himself.

What a great job, you did organizing the book and exhibition. It was also good to see some old friends and meet some new ones. Also I would really be grateful if I could get the hi-res files of the posters for the exhibition. I would love to print them out and hang them around the institution. All The Best

Hello, Andy and MIchael -- Thanks so much for the wonderful exhibit and reception you arranged for Images from Science 2. It was very gratifying to see the amount of interestin the show. The presentation of the images and the quality of the printing was first rate. The book also is of the best quality. Congratulations to its designer. I would like to buy six copies of the book. And if there are copies of the first book, I'd like to get two of those, please.

Martin
Thank You Michael & Andy

I visited the site and sent the link to all my friends and the gallery where I am showing. Thank you for all your help.
